A week ago, one of the most anticipated weddings in recent memory took place. Actor George Clooney, who was quoted as saying that he would never get married again over 20 years ago, tied the knot with British-Lebanese lawyer and activist, Amal Alamuddin. The beautiful wedding ceremony took place in the ‘floating city’ of Venice.
Despite all of the negative things that happen in the world, there are two things mankind gets great joy out of — the birth of a child and the marriage of a man and a woman. The union of two people in a marriage ceremony is an amazing and touching experience. People spend lots of money and often go into debt to pull off the perfect wedding.
God even uses the act of marriage to represent one of the greatest future events in the history of the world — the final reunion of Himself with His creation. Mankind was separated from God when our ancestors, Adam and Eve, decided to disobey God in the Garden of Eden. At that point, God put in place a plan to remove the barrier of sin and imperfection between Himself and His creation. This plan will culminate in a majestic wedding ceremony in heaven. This ceremony is often called the “Marriage Supper of the Lamb.”
Listen to how the Bible describes this event in Revelation 19:7-9: “Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to [God]: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. And [the angel] saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb.”
I mentioned already that the “marriage” spoken of here is the reunion of God with His creation. But, perhaps, you still have some questions such as: Why is it called the “Marriage Supper of the Lamb”? Who is the Lamb? And who is getting “married” to the Lamb?
Well, the Lamb is Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and the “Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world.” He is the centerpiece of the plan which God put in motion after Adam and Eve disobeyed Him and brought the curse and the consequences of sin down on the entire human race. Because it is impossible for us to live perfect lives — the Bible says, “all have sinned” — God sent His Son Jesus Christ to Earth to live the perfect life and then take on Himself the burden of our sin and the punishment that we deserve for our sin. God allowed Jesus Christ to suffer in our place so that we could have the opportunity to be saved from the eternal consequences of sin and reunited with Him. John 3:16-17 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”
Those who get “married” to Jesus Christ (the Lamb) are those who believe on Jesus Christ and accept the sacrifice that He made on our behalf. These are the ones who are told to “be glad and rejoice.” These are the ones who are cleansed of their sins and given “fine linen, white and clean” to wear to the glorious marriage celebration in Heaven. These are the ones who are blessed to have a relationship with God and who live in Heaven with Him for all of eternity.
Wouldn’t you love to be reunited with your Creator? Wouldn’t you love to be a part of the wedding of the ages? Wouldn’t you love to feast with the rest of the saints at the celebratory dinner in Heaven?
God certainly wants you to be a part of this great event! That is why He made it so easy for you to make sure that you are there to celebrate with Him. The Bible says that God is “not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
You can come to repentance today by first admitting that you are a sinner in need of a Saviour. The Bible says “all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. You are not perfect, and neither am I. There is “none righteous, no, not one.”
Then, you must realize that the punishment for sin is physical death and eternal suffering in Hell. The Bible says, “the wages of sin is death.” James 1:15 says, “sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.” After death, comes eternal punishment in a place called Hell, or the “lake of fire.” Revelation 21:8 says, “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second [eternal] death.”
Finally, you must realize that the only way you can be saved from your sins and the punishment of sin is through Jesus Christ. As explained already, He is the perfect and holy Son of God who came to earth, lived a righteous life, and suffered punishment on our behalf. He died a cruel death on the cross, was buried, but rose again. Because of His resurrection, He is the only One who can guarantee us eternal life after death. However, we must believe on Him. The Bible says, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.”
The Bible also tells us in Romans 10:9 and 13: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” It can’t be made any clearer than that. All of those who are “saved” are made righteous before God and will be a part of the “Marriage Supper of the Lamb” in Heaven at the end of time.
If you want to be saved right now, please pray a short prayer to let God know that you are making this all-important decision. Just repeat after me and mean it from your heart.
Holy Father God, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. I realize that I deserve eternal punishment for my sins. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today and forever so that I can have your peace and assurance about my life today and my eternal future. Amen.
If you just trusted Jesus Christ as your Saviour, and you prayed that prayer and meant it from your heart, I declare to you that based upon the Word of God, you are now saved and you are on your way to Heaven. Welcome to the family of God! Congratulations on doing the most important thing in life and that is receiving Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour.
