This past week, over 200 world leaders gathered in Paris to discuss what some have described as the greatest threat facing the planet — global warming. Politicians, scientists, and other leaders paint the situation in dire terms. The French president compared the threat of climate change to the threat of terrorism. Scientists tell us that if the course is not reversed, sea levels will rise dramatically, coastal regions will be flooded, severe weather events will increase, and the way of life for many people will be disrupted. Pope Francis said that if something is not done about this problem, the world is “at the limits of suicide.”
Many have blamed climate change on man. Our pollution of air and water, our exploitation of the Earth’s natural resources, and our irresponsible use of unclean energy have all contributed to the calamity of global warming. They may be right.
However, in God’s eyes, there is a far more serious issue that has polluted this planet, which was once a paradise. That issue is sin. Long before mankind began using fossil fuels or dumping trash in rivers, man was sinning. Listen to what God says about it and the effect it has on the Earth in His word, the Bible:
Isaiah 24:5 says, “The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant.”
Psalm 106:36-38 says, “They served their idols… they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto devils, [they] shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters… and the land was polluted…”
Ezekiel 36:17 says, “When the house of Israel dwelt in their own land, they defiled it by their own way and by their doings: their way was before me as uncleanness.”
Leviticus 18:27 says, “The men of the land have done all these abominations, and the land has become defiled.”
In Jeremiah 2 & 3, God says, “I brought you into the fruitful land to eat its fruit and its good things, but you came and defiled My land, and My inheritance you made an abomination… Lift up your eyes and see; you have polluted a land with your harlotry and with your wickedness.”
Just before the Great Flood of Noah’s day, the Bible tells us “God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.”
Our sinfulness has messed up the Earth God has given us. Sin is the reason why we have sickness, disease, wars, violence, crime, and death in this world. However, the Bible also looks forward to a day when God will make a New Heaven and a New Earth. That Earth will be free from the effects that the curse of sin have wrought on this Earth. Revelation 21 says, “I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away… And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.”
This old, polluted Earth will one day be destroyed. But, today, God is giving you the opportunity to be a part of His new, beautiful Earth that will never be affected by global warming or climate change, and most importantly, will never be marred by sin or the consequences of sin. You can live in the New Heaven and the New Earth if you accept God’s gift of salvation through the shed blood of His Son Jesus Christ and let Him cleanse you of your sins and make you His child.
If you do not know the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior, here is how you can accept Him into your heart today.
First, accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”
Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”
Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:28: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”
Now that is bad news, but here’s the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will.
Romans 10:9 & 13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved… For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
If you believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead, and you want to trust Him for your salvation today, please pray with me this simple prayer: Holy Father God, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. I am sorry for my sins, and today I choose to turn from my sins. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. I trust Jesus Christ as my Savior and I choose to follow Him as Lord from this day forward. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today. Amen.
If you just trusted Jesus Christ as your Saviour, and you prayed that prayer and meant it from your heart, I declare to you that based upon the Word of God, you are now saved from Hell and you are on your way to Heaven.
