Take Me to the King

One of the most popular Christian songs of our day is “Take Me to the King” by Tamela Mann. Allow me to share the lyrics of this beautiful song with you.

Take me to the King
I don’t have much to bring
My heart is torn in pieces
It’s my offering
Take me to the King

[Verse 1:]
Truth is I’m tired
Options are few
I’m trying to pray
But where are you?
I’m all churched out
Hurt and abused
I can’t fake
What’s left to do?

Truth is I’m weak
No strength to fly
No tears to cry
Even if I tried
But still my soul
Refuses to die
One touch will change my life

[Verse 2:]
Truth is it’s time
To stop playing these games
We need a word
For the people’s pain

So Lord speak right now
Let it fall like rain
Oh, yes, we’re desperate
We’re chasing after you

[Bridge:]
No rules, no religion
I’ve made my decision
To run to You,
The healer that I need

Lord we’re in the way
We keep making mistakes
The glory’s not for us
It’s all for You

[Chorus:]
Take me to the King
I don’t have much to bring
My heart’s torn to pieces
It’s my offering

Lay me at the throne
Leave me there alone
To gaze upon Your glory
And sing to You this song

Take me to the King.

Notice some things with me about this song and especially about the King whom Mrs. Mann sings about. The King is someone you can go to when you are weak and tired. The King is someone whom you can go to when you have no place else to go. The King is someone you can go to when you feel like your prayers are not being answered. The King is someone you can go to when you have been hurt and abused.

Who is this King? This King is none other than Jesus Christ who said in Matthew 11:28-30, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Yes, the King is someone who wants you to come to Him. He can give you strength. He can dry your tears. He can give you peace. He can give you hope. And, most importantly, He can give you salvation from the sins which have caused so much pain, heartache, and suffering in your life and in the lives of every person who has ever lived.

Unlike earthly kings, King Jesus is approachable. He wants you to come to Him just as you are. As Tamela Mann’s song says, you don’t have much to bring anyway. The Bible says in Luke 15:1, that when Jesus taught and preached 2,000 years ago in Palestine, ‘all the publicans and sinners drew near to hear Him.’ In fact, Jesus Christ said that He “is come to seek and to save that which was lost.”

If you have not come to Jesus Christ and accepted His free gift of salvation, then you are lost in your sins and on the way to eternal punishment and separation from God. Jesus came so that you would not have to suffer that terrible fate. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Why don’t you come to the King today and accept what only He can do for you. Let Jesus Christ take over and let Him provide the fulfillment, happiness, joy, peace, love, and eternal assurance about your future that you can only dream of.

If you want to give your life to King Jesus today, please take the following steps.

First, recognize that your sins have separated you from God. Our sins are the bad or wrong things that we do. In honest repentance, agree with God about your sinfulness and admit your need for forgiveness. 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he [God] is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Because of our sins, we are automatically sentenced to die and go to an awful place called hell. The Bible says in Romans 6:23 that “the wages of sin is death.” Revelation 21:8 says, “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” This is what happens to those who die without giving their life to Jesus Christ while they have a chance.

Second, realize that God loves you, and believe that his sinless Son, Jesus Christ, died for our sins –taking the punishment that we deserve. Romans 5:8 says, “God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Because of Jesus Christ’s sacrificial death on the cross, we do not have to go to Hell. We can be saved from that terrible place.

Third, accept Jesus Christ’s invitation to receive salvation by trusting him by faith to be your Savior. Romans 10:9 & 13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

If you trust Jesus Christ for salvation, you will be saved from sin, spiritual death, and hell, and you will be guaranteed a place in Heaven. If this is your heart’s desire, you can pray a short prayer to let God know about your decision:

Heavenly Father, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have sinned against you. For Jesus Christ’s sake, please forgive me of all of my sins. I now believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died, was buried, and rose again for me. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart, save my soul, change my life, and fill me with your Holy Spirit today and forever. Amen.

If you just trusted Jesus Christ as your Saviour, and you prayed that prayer and meant it from your heart, I declare to you that based upon the Word of God, you are now saved and you are on your way to Heaven. Welcome to the family of God! I want to congratulate you on doing the most important thing in life and that is receiving Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour.
