Meet the Attorney Who Has Never Lost a Case

Many people are fascinated by dramatic legal proceedings. Over the past few weeks, many in America have stayed informed about the George Zimmerman/Trayvon Martin murder trial all the way to its conclusion on yesterday. No matter the outcome of any case, it is undeniable that a good lawyer is perhaps the most valuable asset in a courtroom. Someone once said, “he who is his own lawyer has a fool for a client.”

You may have never needed the services of a lawyer in this life. But one day, when you stand before God, you will. And, the best lawyer you will find is Jesus Christ, the Son of God. The Bible says in First John 2:1, “My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous…”

This verse tells us the reason why we need a lawyer (or advocate) to stand before God the Father for us. It is because we are sinners, and we often do bad things. And, because God is holy and cannot tolerate sin in his presence, we cannot stand before God on our own. So, we must have someone to stand before God for us, just as a defendant has a lawyer to stand before a judge in his place. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is the only person who can stand before God in our place because he is righteous — when he was on this earth, he lived a perfect life and never sinned.

First John 2:2 goes on to say that Jesus “is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.” The word “propitiation” means ‘something that appeases or turns away wrath or punishment.’ Because of our sins, each of us are automatically under the wrath and punishment of God. Because God is holy, he must punish sin and evil. The Bible tells us that the punishment for sin — even one sin — is death. However, God loves us so much that he does not want us to die and spend eternity separated from him. So, he sent his son, Jesus Christ, to take the punishment that we deserve. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Jesus Christ became the propitiation, or satisfying sacrifice, for our sins and the sins of the world.

If we accept the sacrifice that Jesus Christ made on the cross, we do not have to fear eternal punishment when we stand before God at the end of our life. This is because Jesus Christ will be our advocate, or lawyer, in God’s courtroom. If we accept his salvation, he transfers his righteousness to us, and saves us from God’s wrath. Romans 5:9 says if we are “justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.” Just as a good defense lawyer is able to defend his client so that he will avoid jail, Jesus Christ will be our advocate before the Heavenly Father in order to deliver us from Hell.

Would you like to have Jesus Christ as your lawyer in God’s courtroom? Would you like for him to be your advocate before the heavenly father? If so, you must believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God. The only way we can be allowed into Heaven is if we place our faith and trust in him and accept the grace and mercy that he offers to us. Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

This mercy and grace was shown by God when Jesus Christ sacrificed himself on the cross taking the punishment for all of our sins on himself. Romans 5:8 says, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

Are you willing to accept God’s mercy and grace and his forgiveness of your sins? Are you willing to give your life to Jesus Christ, trusting him to save your soul from eternal punishment so that you can enjoy eternal life with him in Heaven? Romans 10:9 & 13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

If you accept Jesus Christ into your heart, you will begin a relationship with God that will last for eternity. And when you face death, you will not have to fear God’s eternal judgment falling on you because you know that Jesus is your lawyer and will advocate for you. If you want this salvation and assurance, you can pray a short prayer right now to let God know that you have decided to trust Jesus Christ as your Saviour so that you can spend eternity with him. Please repeat after me and mean it from your heart.

Holy Father God, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I now believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today and forever. Amen.

If you just trusted Jesus Christ as your Saviour, and you prayed that prayer and meant it from your heart, I declare to you that based upon the Word of God, you are now saved and you are on your way to Heaven.
