Four years ago, many people in our country voted for a candidate who promised to bring hope and change to America. They expected that the country would be pulled from the depths of a terrible economic slump, that the unemployment rate would be drastically lowered, and that a new day of honest, transparent American governing would be ushered in. Well, many of those people, today, say they are sorely disappointed. The economy has not improved as expected. The jobless rate has remained high. And the approval rating of Congress is at an all-time low.
Many of these people will go to the polls again this year and vote for the same candidate. Many others will vote for a different candidate who has made similar promises. However, my friend, I want to tell you that no matter who you vote for, you will never find true hope and change for your life in a political leader — and this nation will never find true hope and change in a political leader either. The Bible says in Psalm 146:5-6: “Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God: Which made heaven, and earth, the sea, and all that therein is: which keepeth truth for ever.”
No matter what the economic situation is in America and the world, no matter what the jobless rate is, no matter what government does or does not do, you can have hope if you have a relationship with God. God made the heavens and the earth, and He is in control of everything that happens. If you know God, you can have hope, not because you know what the future holds, but because you know the One who holds the future.
God can also bring about true change in your life through His Son Jesus Christ. Second Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” The greatest form of change you need is not political change, but personal change. You heart, mind, soul, and spirit need to be born again — you need to become a new creature in Jesus Christ.
The reason why we need a new birth in Jesus Christ is because we are sinners. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “All have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” Because of our sins, we are spiritually dead, and we are on our way to physical death and an eternity in Hell without God.
However, because God loves us, He does not want us to suffer forever in Hell. That is why He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins — taking the punishment that we deserve. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
It is God’s desire for us to live happy and fulfilled lives. However, we can only live happy and fulfilled lives if we accept Jesus Christ’s invitation to begin a relationship with God by receiving Him into our lives by faith. When we do this, we can be saved from our sins and from the consequences of sin; we can have true hope and we can allow God to make the changes that need to made in our lives. Jesus Christ said in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” There is no other way to receive these blessings from God except through His Son Jesus Christ.
Romans 10:9 & 13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
If you accept Jesus Christ into your heart, you will begin a relationship with God that will last for eternity. If you want to begin your relationship with God through Jesus Christ right now, you can pray something like this to let God know about your decision:
Holy Father God, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I now believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today and forever. Amen.
If you just trusted Jesus Christ as your Saviour, and you prayed that prayer and meant it from your heart, I declare to you that based upon the Word of God, you are now saved from Hell and you are on your way to Heaven. Welcome to the family of God! I want to congratulate you on doing the most important thing in life and that is receiving Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour.
