Have you ever wronged someone and failed to go back and make the situation right with them? Perhaps it was a family member, a co-worker, a friend, or a spouse who you offended. Such a situation often leads to resentment, non-communication, and even hatred. You and the other person may find it hard to speak to each other or to work together. If you don’t go back and make it right, it may seem as though a brick wall has risen up between the two of you. Did you know that such a wall exists between you and the most important, most powerful being in the universe. Yes, from the time we are born, a wall is standing between us and God.
Why does this wall exist?
This wall exists because of our sins or the wrong things that we do. The Bible says that “all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” Our sins are offensive and displeasing to God. In fact, the Bible says that we are by nature the “enemies of God.” Every time we sin, it is as though we are adding another layer of brick on the wall between ourselves and God.
What happens to us because of this relationship?
Well, if we do not make things right with God, a terrible fate awaits us after death. This terrible fate is eternal punishment in a place of torment and pain called Hell. The Bible says in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” This second death is final. Once a person goes to Hell, there is no second chance, there is no way of escape, and there is no turning back.
The only chance you have of avoiding this terrible punishment is to get right with God while you are alive, because after death, there is no hope.
How can we get right with God?
The good news is that if you are alive, you can still get right with God. And even greater news is that inspite of your sins, God loves you, and WANTS you to get right with Him. The Bible tells us in 2 Peter 3:9 that God is “not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” And, perhaps, the greatest news of all is that God has done everything necessary for you to get right with Him.
He did this by sending his son, Jesus Christ, to pay the penalty for our sins on the cross. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” You can get right with God by receiving the free gift of salvation provided by Jesus Christ.
Ephesians chapter 2 explains this further when it says that we “were without Christ… having no hope, and without God in the world.” However, we who “were far off [or separated from God] are made nigh [or drawn near to God] by the blood of Christ. For Christ is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us” and God. That is wonderful news for us today! Through Jesus Christ, the wall that exists between us and God can be broken down and we no longer have to be the enemies of God, but we can be his children — beloved members of His family.
Are you ready to get right with God today? I hope you are. It will be the most important decision you will ever make in your entire life. Allow me to show you how you can get right with God right now…
First, recognize that your sins have separated you from God. In honest repentance agree with God about your sinfulness and admit your need for forgiveness: 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Second, realize that God loves you, and believe that Jesus Christ died for your sins — taking the punishment you deserve. The Bible says in I Peter 3:8 that Jesus Christ “hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God…” Jesus’ punishment and death on the cross is the only way by which you can get right with God.
Third, receive Jesus Christ into your life by faith as your Savior from sin and sin’s consequences. Romans 10:9 & 13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
If you accept Jesus Christ into your heart, you will be in a right standing with God, and you will not suffer eternal punishment in Hell. If this is your heart’s desire, you can pray a prayer like this right where you are to let God know about your decision. Just repeat after me and mean it from your heart.
Holy Father God, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I now believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today and forever. Amen.
If you just trusted Jesus Christ as your Saviour, and you prayed that prayer and meant it from your heart, I declare to you that based upon the Word of God, you are now saved from Hell and you are on your way to Heaven. Welcome to the family of God and congratulations on doing the most important thing in life and that is receiving Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour.
