Bobby Bowden Decided to Win at Life Through Jesus Christ

He coached the Florida State Seminoles football team from 1976 to 2009. During his time at Florida State, he led his team to an Associated Press and Coaches Poll National Title in 1993 and a BCS National Championship in 1999. He also led his team to win twelve Atlantic Coast Conference championships since FSU joined the conference in 1991.

He retired from coaching on December 1, 2009 as the second winningest coach in college football, having only one losing season in his 34 years at Florida State. His final coaching appearance was at the 2010 Gator Bowl game on January 1, 2010, which ended in a 33–21 victory over his former program, West Virginia. Although raised in a Christian home and making a public profession of faith in Christ at age 10, it wasn’t until he was 23 years old when he rededicated his life to Jesus Christ.

During his 46 years of coaching, he has been responsible for showing nearly 5000 young men the path to Jesus Christ. Reflecting on his career successes and what God has taught him through coaching, he said, “If you love Him and serve Him and try to be loyal to Him and obedient to Him, He’s not going to let you fail. That’s the thing that has happened to me.” His name is Bobby Bowden.

This is the “Chief of Sinners,” Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society, and just as Bobby Bowden gave his life to Christ, may I encourage you to do the same. The Bible says in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” If you want to know Jesus Christ today as your personal Saviour as Bobby Bowden does, all you have to do is acknowledge and realize that you have done some bad things in your life called sin; you have sinned against God. Then you must believe on Jesus Christ for salvation, and pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will. If you are willing to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation, please pray with me the following simple prayer: Heavenly Father, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I now believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today. Amen.
